Team effort clears path for walkway

By SALLY GIBBS

The public reserve area by Waihi’s Victoria St bridge received a facelift last Saturday as masses of weeds were cleared to make way for a planned new walkway.

The combined efforts of Waihi Walkways and Waihi Rotary Club members saw unwanted vegetation removed and mulch placed around Totara trees which had been planted last year.

The clearing of rocks and stumps from a flat area was also undertaken by the Rotarians, with Cr Sel Baker assisting with a ride-on mower.

"We envisage the reserve becoming a picnic area, with mown lawns and specimen trees in close proximity to the Ohinemuri River being the feature," says Waihi Walkways co-ordinator Ruth Ordish.
