Waihi Walkways Annual Report

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT 30.07.2003

In making this report I would like to thank the committee for their efforts over the past years. The basis for an exciting walkways system in and around Waihi and surrounding districts has been laid. A lot of this has been due to the untiring efforts of Eric Lens. His production of the overall and detailed plans has made it easy for future developments and, maybe, future developers as this is a total plan that will take a long time to complete.

The completion of the Mill Stream is very near. The signage, the statues and some minor details are in hand. It has been a long time coming but the outcome will worth the wait. I would like to see a joyous official opening ceremony for what will be a showcase for the rest of the walkways system. It will show what can achieved working with various bodies, D.O.C. Environment Waikato, etc, by people with realistic goals. My thanks include the various organizations that have helped with the funding of the project. These will be acknowledged by displaying their logos in a prominent place near the beginning of the walkway.

H.E.L.P. Mr. Bustard, Mr. Board. Mr. Bernsten must be thanked for the high standard of their workmanship.

However, there is still a long way go to the ultimate. Future generations may see areas for 'add ons' or extensions. There may be a vision of walkways extending from Paeroa through Waihi to the beaches. I know that a good solid base has been prepared. The data accumulated will make it much easier for the future.
